WE WANT TO OFFICIALLY THANK REBEKAH GROOVER for her many, many years of service to Faith as our Nursery Attendant!! Rebekah started helping with the Church Nursery when she was a teenager and has faithfully cared for the little ones of our congregation for years. We wish her success and God’s blessings in her new endeavors as a new mom and as a full-time Certified Nurse’s Assistant! AND WE OFFICIALLY WELCOME Kelsey Leader as our new Nursery Attendant! Kelsey has been a friend to the congregation since she was 6 as a student at Children’s House, and practically grew up in the Church Office, as she is the daughter of our Church Secretary. Kelsey is a senior in high school now and will be turning 18 in a week! We welcome Kelsey and are overjoyed that Rebekah will continue to be the Nursery Substitute when needed.

OUR TABITHA CIRCLE would like the congregation’s help collecting items for the Lutheran World Relief kit project. The 3rd Quarter of 2010 will be SCHOOL KIT QUARTER. This is a perfect time to take advantage of the school supply sales! We ask you to simply pick up an item or two as you shop. Items to look from July—September are: letter-size notebooks of ruled paper (1 or more to make 150-200 sheets, preferably not spiral-bound), blunt scissors, centimeters/inch rulers, pencil sharpeners, new pencils with erasers, erasers 2 1/2” long; letter-size construction paper, boxes of 16 or 24 crayons. …Thank you!!! Please bring these items to the Church Office or mark them for LWR kits and leave in the kitchen or Sewing Room on Sundays.
COMMEMORATIONS FOR THIS WEEK – (+)Thursday, September 2, 2010 -Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig, bishop, renewer of the church, died 1872.
Grundtvig was, with Søren Kierkegaard, one of the two great Danish theologians of the nineteenth century. As a pastor, he battled the prevalent idea that Christianity was more a philosophy than divine revelation. He wrote over a thousand hymns.
INTERFAITH KITCHEN servers needed. A sign-up sheet hangs in the Fellowship Hall to serve a particular month on the 2nd Tuesday.
October - Dec. 2010 are open!
September – Young Families Group!!
A reminder… the entrée for these dinners is provided, a group need only provide accompaniments to complete the meal. It is an easy and extremely rewarding experience. We suggest having a least 8 servers for a dinner. If you are interested, form a group of other interested folks! Call our Coordinator, Craig Parrillo at 717-4321.
THE DIVINE DISCOVERY (DVD) GROUP will resume monthly meetings on September 8, 7:00 pm, at Doris and Bob Smith's home, Apt.203 at the GS – Florida Lutheran Retirement Center on the corner of E. Wisconsin and N. McDonald Avenues. The presentation will be the "Jewish Roots of Christianity." All are invited to attend.
Wednesdays Together in August
A TAIZE’ MEDITATION WORSHIP SERVICE will be held this Wednesday, September 1st beginning with supper at 5:30 p.m. and Worship at 6:15 p.m.
SEARCHING FOR OUR PEW BIBLES…We are missing 9 of our new red pew Bibles. These are the hard-back red Bibles that match our red new hymns. We request that any of these that have been borrowed to please be returned, so we don’t have to order more. We would like these particular bibles to remain in the pews for use during Sunday worship. We have many, many other bibles to give! Thank you!
EACH YEAR WE PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL MEMBERS to join in formulating the Annual Church Budget. We will be having 3 Budget Workshops in September for you: Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7:00pm here at Faith, Sunday, Sept. 19 at 12:00 noon here at Faith, and Wednesday, Sept. 22nd at 3pm (change) at GS-Florida Lutheran. We hope you can make one of these workshops. These meetings give you the time to discuss line-by-line the Church’s budget for 2011.
BIG CANS NEEDED!! Many of you already participate in our “Food Pantry Collection Sundays” by providing non-perishable items for our little food bank and St. Barnabas Faith-at-Work Program. We are asking at this time to include the very large (#10) cans of green beans or mixed vegetables, fruit cocktail or peaches for our monthly Interfaith Kitchen meals. These cans can be found in Wal Mart / Winn Dixie / Sam’s, etc. and cost about $5.00. We use about 5 cans of vegetables and fruit each month.
A REMINDER… that Faith Lutheran Church still collects can pop-tops for the Women of the ELCA’s Lighthouse Project, and used prescription eyeglasses and hearing aids for the Lion’s Club. We also collect General Mills box tops, and used HP inkjet printer ink cartridges for the Children’s House Montessori School. You can bring any of these items to Church on Sundays (just leave them on the tables at the entrance to the nave) or bring them to the Church Office during office hours. Thanks!
THE WORSHIP FOLDER, CHANCEL FLOWER and SANCTUARY LAMP charts are available at the entrance to the nave. You may want to take this opportunity to remember a loved one or special event by “giving” the worship folders, flowers, or sanctuary lamp for a particular Sunday of the year. As a reminder, the worship folders are $16/week, chancel flowers -$20/vase, & sanctuary lamp is $10/month. The sanctuary lamp sign-up is included on the chancel flower chart. We purchase chancel flowers throughout the year, except during Lent and Advent.
